Submitting To ETP

Similar to many leading academic journals, the acceptance rate at ETP is low, averaging around 6%. While the odds of success seem daunting, the editorial team has worked diligently to help improve these odds through a set of editorials. The following insights help authors frame their work for the ETP audience and point out common flaws that tend to end the review process early.

Crafting an ETP Submission

Johan Wiklund (EIC) and Dean Shepherd (former EIC of Journal of Business Venturing) have synthesized their extensive experiences as authors and editors into a straightforward framework focused specifically on crafting an entrepreneurship manuscript. It is available here: Simple Rules, Templates, and Heuristics! An Attempt to Deconstruct the Craft of Writing an Entrepreneurship Paper

Refining Entrepreneurship Theory

Theoretical contribution (or lack thereof) is a key ingredient to successfully publishing entrepreneurship research. Dean Shepherd and Trent Williams (Associate Editor, ETP) derive insights into how to effectively develop theory, building on insights from reviewer comments. It is available here: Does It Need to be Broader or Deeper? Trade-Offs in Entrepreneurship Theorizing

Empirical Rigor

While theory is critical, so is the scientific method. ETP is especially interested in cutting edge, but sound methodologies that push the field of entrepreneurship further.

Elco Van Burg (Associate Editor, ETP) and colleagues provide important guidance on crafting qualitative research. It is available here:  Advancing qualitative entrepreneurship research: Leveraging methodological plurality for achieving scholarly impact.

For quantitative research, ETP Associate Editors Markku Maula and Wouter Stam provide insights into the common pitfalls identified by reviewers and editors, offering a set of methodological guidelines to enhance quantitative studies. It is available here: Enhancing Rigor in Quantitative Entrepreneurship Research
